How Does Phentermine Work?
Phentermine, in doses clinically used, works on the hypothalamus portion of the brain to release norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger that signals a fight-or-flight response, reducing hunger. Phentermine works outside the brain as well to release epinephrine or adrenaline causing fat cells to break down stored fat, but the principal basis of efficacy is hunger-reduction. At high doses, phentermine releases serotonin and dopamine as well, but such doses are never used in clinical medicine.
Studies show that the most efficient weight loss results when phentermine is used together with physical exercise and psychological motivation. A case study research shows two groups, each 1,000 people size, of phentermine consumers with different results. Group A used phentermine on daily basis and reached an average weight loss of 10 pounds over one month. Group B used phentermine while doing physical exercise two times a week and reached an average weight loss of 12 pounds over one month. However, the interesting results came after the first month when both groups stopped using the diet pills. 80% of the people in group A, who did not practice physical exercise during the month of phentermine consumption, gained 8 pounds back by the end of the second month. Interesting enough, almost 90% of the people in group B remained in a stable loss of 10 pounds. | |
